AS HAWKS coach Peter Wright said yesterday: " It was end-of-season stuff, with some poor tackling, but there were some quality tries from both sides."
Playing with the strong wind in the first half, Selkirk hung on and trailed only 10-6 in first-half stoppage time, but a solo try by Hawks stand-off Duncan Weir stretched the lead to 15-6.

Earlier Grant Strang had crossed for Hawks, Weir adding the goal points and a penalty, whilst Scott Hendrie had slotted a couple of penalties for Selkirk.

Three minutes into the second half a poor clearance was gathered by Strang and popped to Weir, who linked well with Craig Gossman to put Robbie Hair over. It was only a matter of time until Hawks notched the bonus try, sheer pace taking Craig Gossman through and again giving Hair the scoring pass. Hair duly collected his hat-trick – Weir converted and a further penalty took his tally to 17 points.

In the dying moments, Selkirk's sevens skills earned them a couple of tries – John Smyth and Fraser Harkness scoring well-worked touch downs, and Hendrie scoring a lovely conversion from the touchline.
