Currie too hot for Hawks
Published on 26 Sep 2011

COACH Peter Wright looked back on Glasgow Hawks’ 51-12 hammering at the hands of born-again Currie and admitted the scoreline accurately reflected the gulf between the sides, writes David Kelso.

Rugby realist Wright refused to blame his squad’s injury problems and lack of experience at RBS Premiership level and insisted the visitors had simply been by far the better team at Old Anniesland.

He said: “We made far too many mistakes – bit forced and unforced and that led to soft scores for them.

“The bottom line is that we did not play very well and Currie did. They came out of the traps and got on the front foot.

“They ran with pace and made difficult tries look easy. To my mind, Currie and Melrose are by far the best two sides in the league, based on who we have faced so far. I expect them to be competing for the title.”

Currie coach Ally Donaldson said: “Some of our play in the first-half was tremendous – really satisfying.

“Then in the second half Hawks had possession for long, long periods and by and large we defended very well.”
