Boroughmuir 17 Glasgow Hawks 14 League leaders Boroughmuir did their title chances a power of good with a win despite being outgunned for most of the game.
Hawks will know they let this one get away, failing to penetrate some resolute Boroughmuir defending and missing kicks at goal worth 11 points.
The Glasgow side enjoyed both territorial advantage and the bulk of the possession for the first quarter and both scrum-half Cammy Little and Stephen Duffy missed kicks.
Boroughmuir broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with a try from scrum-half Mike Blair.
A Little drop-goal and a Duffy penalty brought Hawks close before winger James Riley went over for the home side's second try.
Duffy and Riley then swapped penalties for Boroughmuir to lead 17-9 at half-time, against the run of play.
Hawks reduced the gap to three points with a try from scrum-half Kenny Sinclair immediately after the restart but as play went on Boroughmuir gradually came back into proceedings.
With 10 minutes left Hawks went for the final push. Duffy had the chance to draw the visitors level with a penalty but pulled the kick wide and a further penalty award was kicked to touch instead of trying for goal.
Hawks rued that last decision at the final whistle as the home support breathed a sigh of relief.
