Melrose 28 Glasgow Hawks 25
An injury time penalty from stand-off Scott Ruthven ensured that Melrose maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
Although Melrose gained a bonus point from the four-three count, it was Hawks who looked the more inventive side, putting together some excellent pieces of play.
However, after a disappointing start to last season which left them chasing leaders Hawick, Melrose will be satisfied to be unbeaten after three weeks.
Craig Hodgkinson kicked his side into an early lead after just two minutes, but Melrose responded with the opening try seven minutes later.
Robbie Brown drove over, after pressure on the Hawks' line by the Melrose pack.
The hosts looked like taking a grip of the game but were punished for poor handling in the backs.
Geoff Caldwell dropped the ball in midfield and James Adams picked up to sprint clear.
Hodgkinson converted, and a drop-goal from Tom Phillip, followed by a converted penalty try gave Hawks a healthy and deserved lead.
However, a try and a penalty brought the hosts back into the contest at the break but Hawks again snatched the initiative early in the second period.
Ricky Munday sprinted in from virtually halfway after Melrose had given away a turnover ball in the Hawks half.
Tries from Scott Ruthven and Robbie Brown - one converted - brought the scores level before the injury time penalty from Scott Ruthven.
