Shade's on for sunny days

Glasgow Hawks go to Murrayfield next week to play Boroughmuir in the cup final but, as Shade Munro tells Alan Campbell, the future is uncertain for both team and coach
RESILIENCE and Glasgow rugby are not often mentioned in the same sentence, but as Shade Munro prepares quietly for next Saturday's BT Cellnet Scottish Cup final against Boroughmuir, the juxtaposition is appropriate.
Both he and his club, Glasgow Hawks, have emerged from troubled times for a well-deserved afternoon in the spotlight at Murrayfield, even if the future for both coach and club is as unsettled as last week's freezing April showers.
Munro, currently working on a month-to-month contract as SRU development officer for the Stirling area, stepped up to join Bill McDonald as first-team coach at Old Anniesland at the start of the season. Although the former Scotland lock had earned his spurs, the appointment coincided with the departure of Iain Russell, the Hawks' full-time director of rugby, as the Glasgow club accepted such a post was untenable given the downgraded role of the country's top clubs in the SRU's far from brave new world of professionalism.
In an environment where all power is centralised at Murrayfield, attendances at Premiership matches have inevitably slumped, with the top Scottish players being syphoned off into alleged superteams to entertain, instead, the good citizens of Wales every fortnight. The lunatics, indeed, appear to have taken over the asylum.
No team list has been added yet.
