Match against Heriots (12-Jan-2002)

Date: Saturday, 12th January 2002
Kickoff time: 15:00
Against: Heriots
Team: Hawks 1st XV
Location: Away
Competition: Premiership Division 1
Final score: 19 - 18 (won)

Earlier in the season, Shade Munro heard someone mention that the last time his Glasgow Hawks team had played, they had spent the entire match defending five metres from their own line.

"Ah, but we've improved now," came the response. "We now spend the whole match defending 10 metres from our line."

His side will be taking things a little more seriously when they face Heriot's this afternoon in what promises to be an entertaining BT Cellnet Cup semi-final at Old Anniesland.

"We've beaten them twice already this season," the coach claims, "but through absolutely no fault of our own. We stole both games in the last five minutes. In fact, we've done that to them about five times in a row and we must be their jinx side. I think they will come here with a real chip on their shoulder."

It was a conversion from Craig Hodgkinson in the final minute of the match that gave Hawks the unlikely 19-18 win when the two sides met at Goldenacre - the kick following two tries when the Glasgow side did their Lazarus impression after looking dead and buried. Munro can't help but marvel: "They can't believe that they keep losing to us. They should have won by a mile."
