Murray Wallace signs for Huddersfield

Breaking news

NEW Town signing Murray Wallace will be keeping a close eye on this weekend’s Six Nations openers.

For the 19-year-old centre-back, who will remain at Falkirk for the rest of this season before heading South in the summer, comes from a big rugby family.

His uncles Murray and Fergus Walker both played for Scotland, who take on England at Murrayfield tomorrow.

Murray, who played for Glasgow Hawks and is now coaching in Colorado, USA, was capped three times.

Fergus, who played for Boroughmuir and Glasgow, skippered Scotland on a tour of Zimbabwe in 1995.

“I come from a really strong rugby family – I’m the one to have broken the mould,” explained Town’s Murray, who has signed a contract through to 2014.

“Both my uncles are very supportive of me in my choice of a career in football in the same way as my mum is.”

Wallace, who rejected moves to Championship pair Brighton and Ipswich in order to sign for Town, plans to complete his degree studies, explaining: “I’ve always wanted to play football, but my education will be there as a back-up.

“The players’ union PFA Scotland, through Craig Flannigan, the education officer, have made arrangements for me to continue my studies down South.

“My mum Leslie has been very supportive of me and the decisions I have made. She has always backed me and stuck by me. Her opinion matters very much to me.”
