It has been a few months since our last update so I thought I would take some time out of
our busy schedule to give you all an update of how the community team are getting on.
Primary Schools
We have delivered curriculum rugby to 9 of our 15 schools, this is made up of 4 weeks of
touch rugby with a festival at the end of it. The remaining 6 schools will start there block of
rugby on Monday 20 February after the midterm break. 3 of our schools are taking part in
an exciting programme Called FSA which is run in partnership with Food Standard Agency
and Scottish Rugby, this gives the children information about healthy eating through rugby.
The Schools are Antonine, Camstradden and Corpus Christi. 17 February will see some of
our schools taking part in a rugby 7s festival at Scotstoun stadium.
Secondary Schools
This year we have been working hard to try and develop links with our 3 local secondary
schools. The schools are Drumchapel, Knightswood and St Thomas Aquinas. Last year only
St Thomas managed to play in the Glasgow Legacy festival. This year it is our aim to have all
3 schools taking part in this. We have been working closely with Drumchapel and have just
recently set up an S1/2 boys after school club and they will be competing in the Glasgow Life
emerging schools cup. Coaching in Knightswood and St Thomas will hopefully follow soon
and we should have all 3 teams competing in the emerging schools cup.
Hawks midis
At the club we are currently running teams at under 13, under 14, under 15 and under 16
levels. Next year it is our aim to run the same teams but also have a Hawks under 18 team
which would be a first for the club - more news will follow on this. This season the under
13s and 14s have been playing friendly fixtures and will compete at the West region festivals
on Sunday 25th March 2012. The under 15s have been competing in the West region division
1 and have a cup final against West of Scotland to look forward to - date and kick off for the
final have still to be confirmed. The under 16 squad have won the West region division 1
and will play Boroughmuir in the Scottish Cup at Old Anniesland on Sunday 19 February.
Coaching Clinics
This season we have been running position specific coaching clinics that have been run
by some Hawks senior players. This has gone down well with our young players who have
attended. So far we have run a scrum half clinic and a standoff clinic. The remaining clinics
are as follows –
Back Row -16th Feb, Front Row – 28th Feb, Centres – 13th March, Back 3 – 20th March
We will try our best to keep you updated as to where the Hawks community team are
coaching and what they are up to on a weekly basis throughout the season.
If anyone would like any information on the Hawks community programme or anyone has
any ideas for future coaching sessions / festivals, please contact our club development
