The Highland sevens circuit has been largely moribund over the past decade as a result of a mainstream season which regularly runs on to the end of April.
League restructuring has given an opening for the re-establishment of some of the former club tourneys.
Caithness are going to the Garioch 7s in Inverurie tomorrow, followed in successive weeks by Highland, their own competition and Orkney.
Club coach Colin Sangster said the restoration of the events is welcome, particularly the club’s own tourney at Millbank on April 28.
He said: “We’ve kept training and had a sevens session on Tuesday which went well.
“There are a few guys who are unable to travel but we have enough who know how to play sevens.
“If we stick together with the same squad, we should be pretty competitive and I’m looking forward to seeing us in action.”
Caithness are strengthened by the return to the county of former Scottish under-20 Scottish cap Kris Hamilton.
After two seasons playing with Premier 1 side Glasgow Hawks, he is back in Caithness where he is starting up a personal fitness business.
