Selkirk Youth will play Stirling County Colts for the second year in a row in the under-18 RBS National Youth League Cup final on Sunday (29 April) at Murrayfield after edging past Boroughmuir in a low-scoring semi-final this weekend.
The Borders went 3-0 ahead early in the first half, with centre Josh Welsh landing a penalty, and they held the lead for 40 minutes. Boroughmuir then crossed the line for the only try of the match, scored by winger Jordan Edmonds, and looked to have the win, but with a matter of minutes to go Welsh was given another attempt at goal and the accurate strike tipped the balance back in Selkirk’s favour and the match was won, 6-5.
Selkirk Youth’s Jake Wheelans said: “We’re excited to be heading back up to Murrayfield for a second consecutive youth Cup final.
“We’re up against Stirling County Colts again and we hope this time we can beat them. We know they are tough opponents though.”
The Borderers lost 41-13 to their Stirling opponents last year in the final.
Elsewhere over the weekend Perthshire beat Deeside, 24-12, and Peebles beat Greenock Wanderers, 33-0, booking their places in the under-18 RBS National Youth Bowl final.
In the under-16 Cup final Stirling County and Glasgow Hawks will meet having beaten Gala Red Triangle (34-24) and Jed-Forest (45-7) respectively. In the under-16 Bowl final Boroughmuir and GHA will go head-to-head even though both teams only managed a draw against Biggar (17-17) and Kelso (15-15) respectively. It was with a higher try count that the capital and Glasgow club made the final.

Under-18 Bowl – Perthshire Colts v Peebles Colts at 1pm
