Glasgow Hawks 10 GHA 12

The back pitches at Anniesland were declared unplayable yesterday, so the
Hawks travelled to Braidholm today for their "home" fixture against GHA.

The pitch was in good condition and the sun shone. Unfortunately this it
as good as it gets.

This was a game that Hawks lost rather than GHA won.

Refereed by our own Mr. J Gossman, the game, especially in the first half,
was punctuated by stoppages. The writer is saddened to report that the majority
of these stoppages were due to GHA' s lack of respect for refereeing decisions
and constant backchat and complaining to the referee. On at least two occasions
GHA coaches were invited onto the park to speak to their players.

Hawks took the lead in the first half after a series of drives from the forwards
which was finished off by Jamie Murphy, despite the protests of GHA that
the ball had been dropped over the line.

As the writer has noted in previous games, once in front the Hawks have a
habit of going to sleep. Today was no exception, allowing GHA two tries,
one converted, midway through the secong half.

Hawks came back into the game and after a sustained period of pressure on
the GHA line, worked a fine try from Jamie Murphy, again disputed by GHA.

Hawks raised the tempo in the last five minutes in attempt to secure our
third win in a row. Great defence by GHA kept Hawks out time after time,
and if our winger had only dived to ground the ball rather than run over
the try line and be held up, who knows? But GHA held out to secure the double
over Hawks.

Next Sunday Hawks are on the road to Greenock, the current league leaders,
to attempt what no other team has managed - beat them! We'll have to up
our game quite dramatically, perhaps some of our first 15 could help distil
that winning mentality which they have into our Under 15s.
