Hawks defend title tonight

The Scotsman reports

Holders Glasgow Hawks will travel to Edinburgh this evening with a strong-looking squad as they look to retain their title at the Boroughmuir Sevens.

The event, part of the Legacy Series, gets underway at 6pm at Meggetland with 12 teams battling it out in four pools in a bid to make it through to the knock-out stages.

Twelve months ago Hawks defeated Stirling County in the final and this time the squad – led by Peter Jericevich and featuring impressive sevens players Grant Strang and Craig Gossman – will take on Boroughmuir and Edinburgh University at the pool stage.

Their match against the host club at 6.36pm should be one of the highlights of the early part of the evening.

Howe of Fife are in a pool with Dalziel and Dundee HSFP and they will be on a high having won the Stirling County Sevens last Sunday.

County themselves reached the final in their own event and should be among the favourites, too. They are in a pool with Hamilton and Cartha Queen’s Park.

As well as the Cup competition there is also a Plate event. The Cup final is set to start at 9pm with the Plate just before that at 8.40pm.

Draw

Pool A: Boroughmuir, Edinburgh University, Glasgow Hawks.

Pool B: Stirling County, Hamilton, Cartha Queen’s Park

Pool C: Stewart’s Melville, Bruce Hay Chiefs, Aberdeen GSFP.

Pool D: Howe of Fife, Dalziel, Dundee HSFP
