The Scotsman reports
Boroughmuir won their own sevens at Meggetland last night, edging out Howe of Fife in the final.
The men from Cupar had won the opening Legacy Sevens event at Stirling County last Sunday and played some good stuff in the capital, but the hosts had too much for them in the last match. Muir won a thrilling final 26-24 with Greg Jones getting two tries and teenager Damien Hoyland eight.
In the pool stages the biggest surprise was that holders Glasgow Hawks lost both their matches. They went down 24-12 to the host club and then 19-12 to Edinburgh University. Boroughmuir won pool C, defeating the students 21-7.
Aberdeen Grammar were in superb form in pool A to see off Stewart’s Melville 36-0 and then the Bruce Hay Chiefs 48-5. Howe of Fife eased through their section, pool D, with a 47-0 win over Dalziel and then a 26-14 victory over top flight side Dundee HSFP.
In pool B Hamilton saw off Stirling County and Cartha Queen’s Park. Each team won one match, but Hamilton scored the most tries.
In the first semi between the hosts and Aberdeen Grammar the visitors scored first with a try from Callum Anderson. ‘Muir then hit back, scoring two converted tries, through teenager Damien Hoyland and Iain Moody to lead 14-5 at the break before the same two players scored again in the second.
Meanwhile, Howe were unstoppable in their semi seeing off Hamilton 34-0.
The final was well contested and Boroughmuir were up by two points at the interval 14-12 before Jones and Rose clinched it after the break. Finally, Dundee HSFP won the Plate event.
Results: Semi-finals: Boroughmuir 28 Aberdeen Grammar 5, Hamilton 0 Howe of Fife 34. Final: Boroughmuir 26 Howe of Fife 24. Plate final: Dundee HSFP 36 Edinburgh University 7.
