Glasgow Hawks put in a quality performance at Murrayfield today to win the under-16 RBS National Youth Cup with a win over Stirling County Colts, 43-29.
It was flair in their back line, which saw tries from full-back James Coupar, winger Oscar Welch, centre Jack Mooney and a hat-trick from stand-off Jamie Loomes. Loomes’s hat-trick and three conversions earned him the man-of-the-match title.
Hawks’s manager, Graeme Davidson, said: “This is a great result for us, the guys have put in a lot of hard work all season and haven’t lost a game yet.
“We have now won 31 competitive games in the last two years and we hope to keep the momentum going into next season.”
Stirling didn’t just let them run ahead, though, and put pressure on throughout the match and at half-time they kept them within four points (14-10). It was end to end stuff for eighty minutes but the tries from Stirling centre Jacob Adamson, winger Hamish Innes and the two from prop Adam Wood simply weren’t enough to bring them back into the game and get the win.
