Disappointing end at Scotstoun

Scotland wing Andrew Turnbull added to his ever increasing try tally with a hat-trick instrumental in securing a win in Scotland’s opening match of day two in the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s.
Turnbull showed off his sevens talent running some fantastic lines topped off with electric pace, helping his side to the 19-12 victory over Kenya.

It’s wasn’t all easy though, having gone in at half-time 12-5 up and with an extra man, the Scots allowed the score to slip back to 12 all through their own error. However, determination shone through and they sealed the win.
Scotland 7s head coach, Graham Shiel, said: “I’m pleased with the victory. It’s always good to start the day off with a win. Unfortunately it wasn’t the best performance though and we’ll need to improve going forward as our next game will be tough.
“We need to be resilient for the rest of today.”
Also putting his name on the score sheet was captain Colin Gregor with two conversions and for Kenya Sidney Ahioya and Michael Agevi scored tries, while Lavin Asego knocked over one conversion. At the death Kenya had a second player yellow carded, on this occasion for back chat to the referee, and all that was left to do was for Gregor to boot the ball into the celebrating crowd.
Scotland will now take on Spain in the Bowl quarter-final at 2.42pm.

It was a disappointing end to the inaugural Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s for Scotland, losing to Spain in the Bowl semi-final, 7-10.
From the moment the Scots lost the opening kick-off they struggled to take a hold of the game and were dominated at the ruck by a very physical Spanish outfit, who have impressed throughout the weekend.

After losing an early try, scored by Cesar Sempere, Andrew Turnbull hit back with his fourth try of the weekend and Colin Gregor converted the score, but their efforts were in vain and all it took was one more try in the second-half from Javier Carrion to conclude their campaign.
Scotland 7s head coach, Graham Shiel, said: “We didn’t control the game, we made errors and were punished for it.
“To compete on the IRB circuit we must be at our very best in every match we play. There are a number of improvements we must make, we were particularly indecisive in this match and Spain turned us over at every hint of indecision.
“It’s a very challenging competition to play in, but the players enjoy it, we’re just disappointed we couldn’t deliver this weekend.”
Scotland 7s will now travel to the London to compete in next weekend’s final leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series at Twickenham. The draw will be made later today before the Cup final.
