Every so often teams come together in sport that defy the accepted thinking of the day
Two such teams take to the Elysian fields of New ANNIESLAND on Friday evening for the Gordon McKay Memorial Match
Most are not in the first flush of youth but they still carry the bearing of past glories
Some are household names whilst others are not even household names in their own household but still they will endeavour to "run like stags and leap like salmon" in accordance with Accie folklore -- a fair degree of imagination required here
The great thing about a sport like rugby is that the older you get the better the player you were and coming from an athletics background I quite envied that because in the world of track the watch stopped and the unforgiving minute was read and worse recorded denying the use of selective memory
However applying that more clinical approach to the teams for Friday it still makes for impressive reading
The serried ranks on and off pitch will include British Lions ,Scottish Caps,Championship winners, an Olympian dentist an ordinary dentist,a swimmer who swam with an Olympian ,a Heineken cup holder, one of Strathclydes finest, pugilists, senior education figure, middle east business man,a star of TV commercials, rugby marketing guru, rugby mentor ,a mover of earth, a quarrier, a famed broadcaster , field events exponent, officers, gentlemen and other ranks such makes up club rugby's rich tapestry
The players may well have their future behind them but for a brief hour on Friday they will defy the unforgiving minute.Come down and support them and help them hold back time .It could well be a game of two halves but maybe not for all
Shnozz was not alone in his sporting prowess in the partnership Irenee captained the Milngavie and Bearsden Swimming Club when a certain Alison Sheppard set out on her journey to become a five times Olympian I suspect Irenee's training regime with M&B Swimming Club would have stretched Gordon
Don't let anybody say to you "were you at the game caller"
The photo gallery is a modest attempt to track the pedigree of some of the participants
