Gordon Mackay report by Mark Walker

Gordon MacKay Memorial Match, 24.08.12
by MarkWalker
Last Friday night, the Club was extremely pleased to host the "Gordon MacKay Memorial Match" at New Anniesland. A fine evening, a playing surface that those at Murrayfield can only dream about and a host of well-kent faces made for an evening to remember.

Not only did a crowd of over 300 have a memorable match to savour, there was food and drink aplenty, and music from the incomparable "John Beattie All-Stars" ensured everyone could blether and banter in true clubhouse fashion with friends old and new into the wee small hours! Surely Gordon would have approved!

As well as thanking our Pipers and all the players and officials who helped roll-back the years for a good few of us on the touchline, the Committee at GARFC is indebted to Chas & Begs for organising the teams and all those behind-the-scenes who made this event happen. Nothing would have happened without the boundless enthusiasm and forceful persuasion of big Sandy Fitzpatrick and his team of little helpers - a "big-up" to Sandy - or without Charlie, Irene and their staff in the Clubhouse. JB compared the evening with his customary aplomb, adding a touch of professionalism that shows why he's always in demand from the media these days and Robert Cheape and staff ensured the facilities were in first class order.

Special thanks also go to our match sponsor, The Preshal Trust for its support and to Iain MacIntosh of Imac Images whose photo's, we hope you'll all agree, capture not only the pitch action but the spirit of the evening - rugby in the right tradition, rugby in the Gordon MacKay tradition!
