Accies match report

Killie 29 – Accies 18, but this doesn’t tell the story….
by MarkWalker
OK, your Webmaster confesses: "reportage" is a bit thin this week, such was the attention required on the touchline by Accies "staff" to various players in this bruising season opener down at Bellsland. First half injuries to Robert Beattie, Graeme Simpson and Stewart Smith (the last 2 requiring hospitalisation!) meant the boys were always going to be on the back foot. And with a half-time score of 21 - 3 in favour of the home side, things did look ominous.

But your favourites rallied, showed a bit of guts and spirit, and with the wind at their backs hauled things back to 24 - 18 with less than 5 minutes remaining. Now, be honest, what would you do: the momentum of the game is with you, you're on the attack and thinking "sod the bonus point, we can do this........" Well, erm, yes. Best laid plans, and all that. What followed was almost as predictable as a Kevin Ferrie interview: breakdown, ball lost, and they run up the park for a converted score. 29 - 18. And so it ended.

There were many today betting on a 40 point spread in favour of Killie, but your favourites showed that even when the chips are down and injuries are suffered to key players, they can still "Run like stags...". Well, sometimes. To those of you still standing at the end of a prolonged 80 minutes and to those of you who endured bruised and battered bodies for the sake of our entertainment, the Blazers in the Committee Room salute you - that was a toughie boys. Well done on a very gutsy performance
