Rutherglen Reformer reveals
Rugby: Former Scotland 7s captain stars for Cambus

FORMER Scotland 7s captain Scott Forrest came out of retirement on Saturday to help inspire Cambuslang Rugby Club to victory over Cumbernauld.
A serious ankle injury forced the ex-Cambus and Glasgow Hawks player to hang up his boots, and it was his decision to quit the game that led to him being appointed as Jim Barrie’s successor at Coats Park in the summer.
Having player professional rugby with the Border Reivers, and captaining Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in India just two years ago, a chronic player shortage reluctantly forced Scott back into action - and he scored a couple of tries for his efforts!
However, Scott admitted it’s not something he is intending - or willing - to do on a regular basis.
He explained: “I was a wee bit sore, and I didn’t want to have to do it.
“I still enjoy playing, but I’m not really keen to have to do it on a regular basis.
“Will Dunlop, who has been playing very well at 12, wasn’t available for Saturday. With the amount of other backs we also had missing, I didn’t think it was worth taking a risk, so stepped in myself - and there really wasn’t anyone else who could do it.
“Luckily, it was the type of game where I managed to get by and I didn’t have to do a huge amount.
“If I could play every week, I would, but I struggled a bit on Sunday and when it starts affecting the rest of your life, it’s really not worth it.”
When Scott first left Cambus to join Glasgow Hawks - where he had incredible success as a player - he always vowed that one day he would be back playing at Coats Park, and his game on Saturday certainly wasn’t on the cards.
He added: “When I became coach, I always knew there was a chance that I might have to dig my boots out for the odd game when our squad was stretched to the limits, but I really didn’t think it would happen this soon, in only our third game!”
