Selkirk 20- 12 Glasgow Hawks

Tough afternoon for Hawks 2's made less painful by superb bonus point win for 1st's . Strongest squad of season put together for challenge at Philiphaugh but struggled to subdue a hard-working Selkirk . Decent start and Hawks set tempo and dominated possession. Great blind-side move by backs resulted in effective pick and go and first Hawks score for Davie Paton. Struggles at breakdown resulted in 3pts for Selkirk. Another turnover created chance for Selkirk to put pressure on, defensive line broken out wide and great support by Selkirk backrow ended in try under posts. 5-10. 2nd half started with Selkirk on offensive and more superb support and off-loads created chance for open side to leave midfield flat footed and nip over . 5-17. Hawks had good spells of pressure in 1st half with only one score and same happened in 2nd. Lot of chances squandered except for great continuity after 56mins allowed space for Mark Taylor to escape down touch line and throw a speculative pass inside for John Rae to brilliantly gather and score. Mike Martin conv for 12-17. Hawks worked hard in last 20 but mistakes crept in as pressure increased to get winning score. Selkirk played effectively and with cool heads to kick long range penalty for another breakdown offence and put game out of reach. 12-20.
