Scotsman League roundup

Hawick went try crazy as they became the second team to put 70 points past their opponents in the RBS National League this season with a thumping victory over Biggar on Saturday.

Three weeks ago Watsonians defeated Jed-Forest 78-3 and this weekend it was Hawick who were the men on form as they played some great rugby at Mansfield Park to defeat the
Hartreemill men 71-6.

Stuart Graham and Lee Armstrong led the way for the Greens with two tries apiece while Rory Hutton, Steven Anderson, Shawn Muir, Craig Smith, Scott McLeod and Keith Davies also got themselves over the line.

The result leaves Hawick in fourth place in the table with two wins, a draw and two defeats to their name, while Biggar are second bottom.

Glasgow Hawks are now the only undefeated side in the league after they won the top-of-the-table clash at Selkirk. The visitors to Philiphaugh came out on top 27-13 and also managed to pick up another precious bonus point after tries from Haddon McPherson, Callum Kerr, Tony Herron and Tom Preece saw them home along with seven points from the boot of Mike Adamson.

In suffering their first loss, Selkirk’s points came through a Rory Banks try and eight points from the kicking of Michael McVie.

Watsonians have leapfrogged Selkirk into second place after they recorded their fourth win on the spin at Hillhead/Jordanhill.

The Myreside men won 34-19 at Hughenden with tries coming from Danny Moussa, Jamie Niven, Jack Ferguson and Tom Hart and the accurate kicking of Brian Walls contributing
14 points.

For the hosts, who have now suffered two home losses in a row, Chris Butler scored two tries and Blair McPherson also went over for one but it was not enough.

Stewart’s Melville and Hamilton both managed to
secure their first wins of the campaign.

At Inverleith, a much-changed Stew-Mel side defeated Kelso 43-31 with Richard Borthwick fittingly grabbing a try on his 200th appearance for the top team.

Hayden Lingard and Niall Shannon were amongst the other try scorers, while Mike Hanning had a great match at stand-off, kicking 13 points and grabbing a try.

At Riverside Park, Hamilton played some of their best rugby of the season to defeat the hosts 35-14 and move off the bottom while leaving Jed-Forest in that position.
