Always a hard shift from Hawick

Hawick have always presented a challenge to the Clubs of The Second City to the extent that two even combined to take on Hawick in a match over two consecutive days home and away ( and you think the pro game has a testing timetable)
To mark the Great Exhibition of 1888 held in Kelvingrove Park Kelvinside Accies combined with West to take on the Borderers
The first leg held in Glasgow took place at the then Glasgow University's Gilmorehill ground where now stands the Western Infirmary just opposite where Hawks sponsor Retties office is situated in Byres Rd
It was originally meant to be a South of Scotland v Glasgow but sadly the South could not field a team so Hawick took up the challenge
Hawick won the first leg but the next day the teams met in Hawick and the City team won by dint of scoring a goal against two unconverted tries such was the scoring system of that period
