Lord Maxton recalls Legends of the Fall

This Saturday sees Annieslands 100 Years War continue in the shape of second leg of the Accies 2nds v GHK 2nds match at New Anniesland
Not a match that in itself will attract headlines but a match that records another chapter in a contest that has its roots in the 1880s and has taken various forms over 130 years fought out not just on main pitches but on back pitches that have their own special place in the folklore of Anniesland with names like The Curling Pond
This week some photos arrived on the Newsdesk courtesy of John Maxton and are displayed on this posting showing several legends of Anniesland Old and New who met in this contest not just a few years ago

Your scribe goes back a long way with John Maxton --a very long way
John Maxton has been influential in many spheres not least when he chaired a Commons Select Committee investigating the effects of professionalism on Rugby
John played alongside the likes Brian Simmers at Accies against the likes of Andy Little and their family trees have given Hawks much

These derbies sustained invigorated and gave purpose to rugby at the ANNIESLANDS until the emergence of Hawks in 1997
They are still keenly contested today and the rivalry with attendant bragging rights is undiminished

In the posted photos are such as;
Brian Simmers
Andy Little
Rob Chatfield
John Maxton
Hamish Kemp
Alan Waddell
Ronnie Hanna
Turner Massey
