WARRIORS SHOOT DOWN FALCONS IN DEVELOPMENT GAME
NEWCASTLE FALCONS ACADEMY 5 GLASGOW WARRIORS 50
In a development friendly match at Percy Park last night, Glasgow Warriors trounced Newcastle Falcons Academy 5-50.
The Warriors, playing with a depleted squad as five players (Craig Hamilton, Andy Henderson, Rory Lamont, Scott Lawson and Dan Parks) were on senior Scotland duty and another four (John Barclay, John Beattie, James Eddie and Iain Kennedy) were on Scotland U21 duty in the game against Edinburgh Gunners back-up squad at Murrayfield, went into the game with only five bench players to choose from.
The physical advantage was clear from the big Warriors side as, after a stale-mate first half hour with only a try a piece on the scoreboard (Glasgow’s from center Graeme Morrison), The Warriors picked up in the last ten minutes of the first half with tries from hooker Fergus Thomson and scrum half Graeme Beveridge and a conversion from stand off Colin Gregor go into the break 17-5 up.
Fergus Thompson started the second half as he finished with first as he went down the blindside for his second try followed by lock Dan Turner who crossed the line moments later.
Sam Pinder, who had come on for Graeme Beveridge, was next to score as he went over in the left corner after a break from the 22, while prop Lee Harrison got in on the act as he too barrelled towards the line from the same distance out.
Glasgow Hawks’ Steve Duffy completed the Warriors scoring as he touched down under the posts and with Colin Gregor adding another three conversions along the way, the final score was Newcastle Falcons Academy 5 Glasgow Warriors 50.
