ROBERT Gordon's College maintained their unbeaten record on Saturday, when in one of the few games to beat the frost they defeated Dollar Academy 22-8.
Coach Richie Anderson was obviously delighted as his team chalked up their tenth successive victory, and their first triumph over Dollar for quite some time. "I've been involved here for four years and it's the first win [against them] I've witnessed," admitted the PE teacher. "However, our game against them usually falls foul of the weather."
The Aberdeen school, whose tryscorers were Ruarhid Jackson (2) and centres Mike McNaughton and Ian McLeod with one each, are still on course for a rare double, already being crowned the kings of Scottish schools sevens, achieved at Murrayfield earlier this season, while they have reached the fourth round of the Bell Lawrie Scottish Cup, in which they have a home tie against Heriot's, likely to be arranged for next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, there was no giant-killing act from North Berwick HS, who went down 12-5 to Strathallan in the third round. The East Lothian school had hoped to follow in the footsteps of Galashiels Academy and Trinity Academy, but it was not to be.
Morc Tod, the Strathallan coach, whose team have lost only once, admitted it had been a very hard game, but that his understrength side had done well to win.
"We had a few injuries but the team battled well and deserved to go through to face Peebles HS next week," he said.
Strathallan's tryscorers were scrum-half Ben Braithwaite and flanker Cameron Terrell, and before they face the Borders side they have one of their highlights of the season, in the shape of a game against Dollar on Saturday.
There are two fourth-round ties tomorrow, weather permitting, with Watson's meeting Fettes at Myreside (6:30pm) and Stewart's-Melville hosting Glasgow HS at Inverleith (2pm).
