SCOTLAND SQUAD FOR IRB UNDER 19 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The Scotland Under-19 squad are preparing to depart for South Africa for the annual IRB Under 19 World Championship in Durban (1-17 April).

The young Scots will play England a week tomorrow (Friday 1 April) at King’s Park, followed by Wales on Tuesday 5 April and Romania on Saturday 9 April before the knockout stages commence on Wednesday 13 April.

Scotland Under-19 coach Peter Wright said: “We are looking forward to the world championship – it is something that our whole season has been geared towards. The results haven’t gone our way so far but we are going out to South Africa with an optimistic view.

“Durban is a great venue and we hope that the better weather and hard ground will suit our style of play. We aren’t the biggest side so we try to move the ball around and penetrate defences away from the set-piece.

“I feel this is the best 26 young players in Scotland and we have worked with them all over the past few months. There has been improvement but this is competition time and we have to compete to remain in the top twelve teams in the world,” he added.

The squad depart for Durban on Sunday (27 March) at 4pm from Edinburgh Airport. For further information on the IRB Under 19 World Championship visit www.irbu19.com
