With Scottish club rugby struggling for numbers highlighted by the number of Reserve League matches being called off maybe it is time for the Clubs to go back to basics for the sake of the Sport
In days before the Scottish Football Union was even formed Clubs helped each other so players could still enjoy a game and surely that is what Clubs are about
This is evidenced by this historical script
"Although the number of clubs was small, and matches were not numerous, many of the players, especially those of reputation, obtained a good deal of football. When a team arrived short, and from the limited membership it was not always easy to muster a full complement, especially when playing twenty a side, the 'given men' were in demand. On many occasions it was agreed to play fifteen a side, and that long before the reduced number became officially recognised as the standard."
So maybe for Reserve League level not a bad philosophy
Or as the motto of Queens Park reads ludere causa ludendi -- the game for the games sake
