Scotsman-- League roundup

GLASGOW Hawks and Hawick are both just a point off top spot in the RBS National League after they won their matches on Saturday and leaders Watsonians lost.

Hawks were at home to Selkirk at Old Anniesland and took a 14-5 lead into the interval. After the break, Jono Wright and Paul Henderson added further tries for the hosts while Mike Adamson converted them both to earn a 28-12 bonus-point victory. Selkirk’s second half points came from a Darren Clapperton try and a Michael McVie conversion.

At Hartree Mill, Hawick had to dig deep to defeat Biggar 13-12. The Greens’ points came from a try by Steven Anderson and eight points from the boot of John Coutts. The home side scored four penalties through Craig Parker and earned a losing bonus point, but are still bottom of the table.

Watsonians led Hillhead/Jordanhill 13-7 at the interval at Myreside, but the Glasgow side fought back and in the end thoroughly deserved their 20-13 victory.

Kelso led 16-10 at the interval, Stewart’s Melville keeping themselves in things with a try from Adam Greig and five kicked points. In the second half, Craig Marshall added another try for the visitors and Trotter’s penalty put them 17-16 up. Liam Steele then kicked a drop goal and Trotter added another penalty, meaning that a late Kelso try was not enough for them as the conversion was missed.

At Laigh Bent, Hamilton defeated second-bottom Jed-Forest 21-12. Robert Brown and Andy Wilson scored Hamilton’s tries, with Owen McLeish kicking 11 points. For Jed, who are one point ahead of Biggar in the table, David Gobby and Robert Hogg scored tries and Ewan Scott converted one.
