HILLHEAD/JORDANHILL are looking forward to testing themselves when top flight leaders Ayr visit Hughenden
this afternoon in the RBS West Regional Cup.
When the sides met at Millbrae in the competition back in November the hosts came out 19-8 winners, but Hillhead/Jordanhill pushed them all the way.
As a result it is no real surprise to see that Ayr coaches Kenny Murray and Peter Laverie have named a strong looking squad for the short trip to Glasgow.
And they will have taken note that Hillhead/Jordanhill became the first team to defeat RBS
National League leaders Watsonians at Myreside this season with a polished display last week that put them fourth in the table.
Colin Dickson, one of the Hillhead/Jordanhill coaching team, said: “After last week’s win the boys are buzzing and keen to take on Ayr.
“We know it will be a tough test, but we have an improving squad who go about their business quietly and
efficiently and it will be a big day for our club.”
It will be a special occasion for home players Blair McPherson and Ryan Holland who will be playing against their former club, but AJ MacFarlane is still away on holiday.
Ayr, who know a win would see them put pressure on Group A leaders GHA, have winger Kerr Gossman back in their ranks while Ross Doneghan is given a start in the back-row after impressing in midweek against Scotland under-20.
Elsewhere today Glasgow Hawks play Dumfries in Group B and Dalziel host Cartha Queens Park in Group C.
In the RBS Edinburgh Regional Cup, Group One leaders Heriot’s take their unbeaten record to Stewart’s Melville.
Returning to Inverleith for the first time in opposition colours will be winger Harry Boisseau while second-row Russell Nimmo is back to bolster the Heriot’s pack. Group Two leaders Currie are at Biggar while Edinburgh
Accies take on Musselburgh and Murrayfield Wanderers are at Boroughmuir.
In the RBS Caledonia Regional Cup, Aberdeen Grammar are on the road to Fife to take on Dunfermline while Perthshire play Howe of Fife with the winner set to top Group B.
The top two meet in the RBS Border Regional Cup with Selkirk hosting Hawick at Philiphaugh.
Kelso welcome Peebles, who have yet to play a cup match this season, to Poynder Park and Jed-Forest will be looking for a confidence-boosting win when they travel to take on Hawick YM.
