Glasgow Hawks Rugby Club Canniesburn Care Home

True to it's history

This week sees thousands descend on Twickers for the biannual pilgrimage to face the Auld Enemy
Sitting in pride of place at the HQ of English Rugby is a Cap from Anniesland staying true to its history and provenance
The Cap was won by J W Arthur of Glasgow Accies in the first ever international in 1871 at Raeburn Place making it the co oldest international cap in existence

The Cap is on loan from Glasgow Accies to the RFU and it is hoped it will be on display back in Glasgow in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2014

Some may find it strange that it is at Twickenham the home of the RFU but oddly it means that it stays true to its history because when Arthur was awarded the cap Glasgow Accies along with neighbours West of Scotland were fully paid up members of that body
The Scottish Football Union(SRU) had yet to be formed at the meeting which was held in the Glasgow Academy (held after the international against England at Hamilton Crescent ) in 1873
The Glasgow Academy was situated in Elmbank St at the time the SFU was founded and it was the the same building that was to later serve the Glasgow High School until the mid 1970s
