Glasgow Hawks 43 Kilmarnock 12
The Under 15s got back to winning ways yesterday, defeating a stuffy Kilmarnock
side at Old Anniesland.
The Hawks scored 7 tries in all, with 4 being converted and produced some
fine running rugby, but also some loose play and slack defending.
Jamie Murphy got the try scoring under way with a drive to the line after
the forwards set up an attacking position in the Kilmarnock half.
Try No.2 was courtesy of a fine solo run by Kerr Gossman.
Jamie Murphy bagged his second and Hawks third try before forwards and backs
combined in a sweeping attack finished off by Oliver McInnes for try No.4.
Euan Robertson converted 3 of the tries.
Half Time: Glasgow Hawks 29 Kilmarnock 0
Stuart Fisher got the Hawks try scoring under way in the second half with
a powerful charge from the 22, holding off three tackles and taking a couple
of Kilmarnock players with him over the line. A try Nick Cox would be proud
of!
Hawks then sat back, stopped tackling and allowed Kilmarnock an easy converted
try.
Try No6 for Hawks resulted from another fine move from backs and forwards
before winger Mark Kemsley was released just inside the Kilmarnock half and
he ripped through the Kilmarnock defence scoring at the posts. Try converted
by Kerr Gossman.
Try No7 was scored by our own Mr. Modesty - the gorgeous Calum Kerr. Spectators
would probably tell of how Calum took a pass on the Kilmarnock 22 and charged
past tackle after tackle, fighting his way to and over the line for a tremendous
solo effort. Being a modest lad Calum would admit to be in the wrong place
at the right time and merely falling over the line on top of the ball after
ensuring that his good looks had not been harmed and hair was still in place.
Kilmarnock were given the last word with the final try of the game.
The result ensured that Hawks have won both league games against Kilmarnock.
It was good to get back to winning ways and a lot of positives can be taken
from the game, though we must tighten up our defence.
Next Sunday we travel down the coast to Ayr, where we have been unable to
beat the home team on our last two visits.
