Tom Steven of Glasgow Hawks is January's RBS Try of the Month winner for his quick thinking kick and chase try against Dumfries in the RBS West Regional Cup.
The try helped Hawks to a 47-0 home win on Saturday 12 January as the side made it six wins in six games in Group B.
21 year old Tom, who coaches youth and school rugby with Glasgow Hawks, believes it is definitely one of the best tries he has ever scored.
“It was a great try to score and it was outstanding that we managed it on our first attempt.
“It felt great. We had worked on it in training and it was amazing that we managed to score from the move the first time we had ever tried it.
“I broke through the first line of defence and the full-back came up so I knew I was going to kick it and once I had scored we all celebrated.”
Tom’s tally for the season stands at 13 tries but this one was a real team effort.
“To score in the first phase of play after the setpiece is fantastic. It was good work from the guys and the pass by Michael was brilliant.”
Inside Centre Michael Martin was the player who got the ball away to Tom for him to finish off.
“He is one of those players you know you’re lucky to be playing with. He has great hands as he showed with this try and will create lots of opportunities for players around him.”
Glasgow Warriors forwards' coach and former Hawks head coach Shade Munro was involved in signing off the winning try.
“Tom was with us for pre-season training, it was a good bit of individual skill by him. It is great to see skill like that being played in the club game. It was a worthy winner for try of the month.”
Tom will receive two tickets for an upcoming home International match and could be shortlisted for the Brigadier Frank Coutts Memorial Try of the Season later this year.
The award will be presented at the annual Scottish Rugby Club Awards Dinner on Friday 31 May. Bookings are now being taken at £37 per head. Please note a table takes up to ten people.
