The Scotsman reveals
After they secured the RBS National League title on Saturday, Glasgow Hawks co-coach Jamie Dempsey revealed how he spent the most anxious 80 minutes of his life receiving text updates on how the match against Hillhead/Jordanhill was progressing.
Dempsey, who, along with Jimmy Sinclair, has masterminded the club’s return to the top flight, missed the Old Anniesland encounter as he is down south with the Scotland under-16 team.
As a result, he was receiving constant messages on his phone as his side managed to edge out their Glasgow rivals 13-7.
“It was nerve-racking, especially when I heard that Rory McKay had been sin-binned, but the guys toughed it out and they really have worked ever so hard all season to win what has been a really hard and entertaining league.”
A converted try by Ross Miller and two Mike Adamson penalties put the home side 13 points to the good, but a Hillhead/Jordanhill converted try made things interesting.
In the other match played, Selkirk edged out Biggar 20-17 at Hartreemill.
