Sun shines on the u18's
After finishing third in the domestic league, and having mixed fortunes in the national cup the u18 squad managed to get through to the semi final of the west cup against old rivals Ayr. This set them up nicely for a few weeks away from 15 a side rugby to try their hand at the 7's version of the game.
Their first ever 7's tournament at Madras in st Andrews showed positive signs for the weeks ahead. With the sun shining and hardly a cloud in the sky they had a tough opening game against Kirkcaldy where they struggled to find their form and were punished. Things improved in the second game against Howe of fife however a last gasp effort saw the boys loose their second game. After some stern words from the coaches they went into their final pool game against Montrose and beating them comfortably 52-0 progressed into the the quarter final of the third tier competition.
After a few games it was good to see the boys gel and start playing like proper sevens players. Next up Aberdeen wanderers, after a shock try from the kick off by wanderers, hawks found their form and showed some of the best rugby of the day beating their opponents 57-17.
Things then moved to the main pitch where a large crowd had gathered to see the three games which would determine who would be going with the silverware. Hawks were on first against Murrayfield Wanderers and showed some class to out muscle their opponents in the end by a clear 22 point margin. Well deserved win for the determination of the boys all day long.

Next up for the u18's the Dumfries 7's followed by the North Berwick 10's. Then the all important clash against Ayr before rounding off the season at the Scotstoun 7's. If you can why not go along and support the boys in what has been a highly successful maiden u18 season.
