Stirling County won their 2013 Ondeo Stirling County Rugby Sevens Tournament for the first time in a number of years in an exciting climax to an action packed afternoon of rugby in the Bridgehaugh sunshine.
County beat Howe of Fife in a closely contested final coming back from 19-12 down to win by 28-19. In the first round County beat Hillfoots Ba Bas 53-0, then ran out winners 29-10 against Cartha Queen’s Park in the quarter-final. County looked to be heading out the tournament in the semi-final against Glasgow Hawks, but two late tries gave the hosts the narrowest of victories at 28-26.
Hamilton won the plate competition, beating Dalziel 34-12.
On Saturday, its’s the ladies turn to play sevens when Stirling County hosts a tournament at Bridgehaugh including teams from all over the country. Action starts at 1pm – admission is free.
