Touchdowns at South and North of Clyde
With the IRB Sevens hitting Scotstoun this coming weekend there will be plenty of touchdowns to witness
This is not exactly a new phenomena in the City about to host the Commonwealth Games
Whilst Scotstoun was starting life as an agricultural showground across the river there were touchdowns being scored at Ibrox during the Rangers Sports of 1889 organised jointly with Clydesdale Harriers and held at the newly opened Ibrox(the first Ibrox) The stadium that has been mentioned as a potential venue for Rabo 12 Final should events play out in a certain way
The press of the day record clearly the results of the small sided football matches including Rangers beating Queens Park by one touchdown to nil after a fine game very appropriate. as Ibrox will host the Commonwealth Games Sevens in 2014
So whilst Ned Haig was starting Rugby Sevens at the Greenyards at Ibrox small sided Soccer matches could be decided by touchdowns confusing eh?
Not really a shot wide of goal followed by an attacking player touching it down beyond the goal line was recorded and used in the event of a draw and this continued upto the last Rangers Sports in 1962 when corners decided drawn five aside games
