Strangy to captain Legacy 7s team

On Sunday (5 May) special select teams from the Kings of the Sevens Series and Legacy 7s Series will go head-to-head in a showcase match at Scotstoun Stadium during the eighth leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

The Legacy coaches are the first to name their team, selecting players who have been impressive so far on the Legacy circuit, following the Stirling County and Boroughmuir 7s the last two weekends.

Three players from Stirling County, two from Glasgow Hawks and Howe of Fife each and one from GHA and Hamilton have been selected for the side.

Glasgow Hawks’ Grant Strang will captain the side.

Coach, Kenny Murray, said: “Following the recent Arnold Clark Legacy 7s Series events we have selected a squad of players who have performed well and who have been highlighted by the core team coaches as players worthy of selection.

“We feel that we have a good mixture of players who have the necessary physicality, speed and skills to compete in a game at this level. Selection was very difficult but we have decided to go with players who are from the core Legacy 7s Series teams.

“Within the squad there is a good blend of youth and experience with players such as Grant Strang and Brian Archibald providing vast knowledge and understanding of the sevens game, which will be beneficial to the younger players including Tony Heron and Ross Inglis.

“Players to watch include the hugely impressive Andrew Gilman at scrum-half and the electric Tony Heron who is one to watch for the future.

“Both Richard [Maxton] and I are hugely honoured to coach the team and look forward to a great game at a fantastic arena.”

Legacy Sevens Select to play Kings of the Sevens Select at Scotstoun Stadium on Sunday 5 May, kick-off 1.26pm: Brian Archibald (Stirling County), Andy Gilman (GHA), Tony Heron (Glasgow Hawks), Joff Hope (Stirling County), Ross Inglis (Hamilton), Sean MacDonald (Stirling County), Dom Martin (Howe of Fife), Chris Mason (Howe of Fife) and Grant Strang (Glasgow Hawks) captain.
