With the much trailed announcement of Davie Moyes taking over at Old Trafford there was a time when rugby was briefly on his radar
When Hawks and professional rugby were both in their infancy in mid 90s some from the Soccer world saw potential opportunities to become agents on the back of their considerable and hard won professional football experience
One was Bill McMurdo who attended Old ANNIESLAND to watch Hawks
Sitting in the old stand at Old Anniesland he was asked what he thought of club rugby he replied " peaceful very peaceful"
Another was a certain David Moyes who hailed from Bearsden and now appointed Fergie's successor who at that time was about to embark on his managerial career with Preston North End but was flirting with the possibility of being involved in rugby to some degree and Hawks was on his doorstep
Both quickly realised that rugby was a somewhat different landscape ,agenda and scale to soccer in Glasgow
His father of the same name had been long in charge of football at neighbouring ANNIESLAND College and had strong connections with Drumchapel Amateurs where both he and Alex Ferguson began their careers under the guidance of a Glasgow Accie Douglas Smith whose contribution was covered in a previous posting
