Tournament organiser Brian Gervaise believes everything is in place for this to be the most competitive Glasgow city sevens yet.


He said: “Despite all the professional teams, GHA show last year that local clubs are here to compete and have every chance to do something special.

“The pro-sides are a big attraction but teams like Ayr and Glasgow Hawks are always strong, while Howe of Fife and Stirling County have performed very well in the series so far.

It is always a great day out for the family, the general standard is superb and there will no doubt be some free flowing sevens on show.”

GHA’s free-scoring winger Rangi Jericevich insists his team will do everything it takes to retain their crown.

He told ExtraSport: “Defending our Glasgow City 7s title has been the focal point of our sevens season and with some quality teams entered once again, we know it will be a tough task.

“We have performed reasonably well in thus far but we will need to shift things up a couple of gears and replicate last seasons form if we want to again win the title.

“We are without Niall Cassie and Andrew Gillman who were two of the stars of last year’s team but the young guys that have come in have stepped up to the plate and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

A total of 16 teams will go through their paces to become the champion of the 2013 NCS Glasgow city sevens at Dumbreck on Saturday.

Also decided on the day will be the final of the the winner of the Arnold Clark Legacy 7s, with Stirling County looking favourites.
