The Hawks Under 15 squad had their first strength and conditioning session this evening at our Dirty Gym in the West End.
9 players (all forwards) were put through their paces by Andrew Davidson and Jamie Lowson, both Under 18 players who have completed UKCC courses in Strength & Conditioning. Andrew has also played for Scotland Under 16 so we are very grateful to him for giving his time to pass on some of the experience he has gained from age-grade development programmes.
The plan is to keep these Wednesday sessions going after school, during the summer holidays and throughout next season.
All the emphasis in these early stages will be on the technique of weight-training, learning the right body positions and movements. The only bar they lifted tonight was a wooden broom handle and for a while they will mainly just be lifting their own body weight with the likes of press-ups and chin-ups.
Tonight's session finished with the Plank Challenge - won by Henry.
