GREG SINCLAIR, a 27-year-old Scot, has been appointed attack/backs coach for Italian side Viadana.
Just four years ago, Sinclair was coaching at RBS West League club Allan Glens. Since then, he has been in Viadana working with the club's academy and Under-20 set-up. Such has been their success in the period he has been there, 17 players have progressed to the senior squad.
In early June, with former North Ayrshire development officer Sinclair at the helm, the U20s reached the national final against Amatori Gran Parma at Reggio Emilia. Despite trailing 10-3 at half time, Viadana rallied to triumph 27-13. Sinclair, whose father Jimmy also tasted glory in 2012/13 as a co-coach of Glasgow Hawks, said: "I have loved my time in Italy. As soon as I moved here I tried to grab the opportunities that were given to me and learn from all of the other coaches. Now to be given this chance with the first team is great and we are already working hard as a group and setting goals for the season ahead. For myself it will be great to rub shoulders with the experienced coaches from the other clubs and work with [head coach] Rowland Phillips."
Phillips previously held the same post at Airioni and earned 10 caps for Wales in the back-row between 1987 and 1990.
