Premier division newcomers Glasgow Hawks learned a hard lesson in the art of holding the ball today as Edinburgh Accies took four points with a late try in the league opener at Raeburn Place. With the clock ticking down in the final minute Hawks were 5 points ahead before they kicked a very loose ball which was picked up gratefully by the Accies back line. A slick piece of sounter attacking saw the home centre Ruairidh Bonner over for a try which added to his 11 point haul with the boot.
Accies had gone ahead early with a try from Jamie Farndale but Hawks fought their way back into the match and had tied the score at 13-13. Hawks skipper Ross Miller appeared to have won the game with 4 minutes to go before Bonner broke the new boys hearts.
Although, Jack Steele had a last gasp penalty chance it was at long range and fell short.
Hawks will have to learn that games are won with the ball in hand.
