Hawks’ pair soar as Poland’s “White Eagles” crush Sweden

Poland defeated Sweden 30 – 9 in their European Nations Cup match in Warsaw on Saturday. Prop, Craig Bachurzewski and flanker Mateusz Bartoszek, both started the match which has revitalised the Polish challenge in what is part of the qualification process for the Rugby World Cup in England in 2015.
The Poles dominated the match and Mateusz made an early impact when he opened the scoring for Poland with a try in 5 minutes which was converted. Poland scored further tries just before the end of the first half and again just before the end of the second half and these scores along with 3 penalties overwhelmed the Swedes who could manage only 3 penalties. In the second half Sweden only managed a solitary penalty score despite Poland conceding two yellow cards.
The result sees Poland move into second place in the group behind Germany, who have a game in hand. But the sides have still to play each other in Germany in November.
Poland’s next match is against the Czech Republic in October and Craig and Mateusz are hopeful that their current form will see them selected again.
Gratulacje* from all at Glasgow Hawks to Craig and Mateusz.
