Glasgow Hawks return to their home in Old Anniesland this weekend as they face Gala in the RBS Premiership. The Borders side are second in the league having lost only one match so far, against Heriots by a solitary point. The “Braw Lads” gained two bonus points in that encounter and will be eager to keep up the pressure on their local rivals Melrose when they visit Glasgow. Hawks lost narrowly to league leaders Melrose in the Borders last Saturday and feel they can compete with the sides challenging in the top half of the league.
Hawks coach Jamie Demspey said, “I felt that we played very well in certain aspects of the match and on another day could have won it. We need to learn to adapt to the referees interpretation which at times conflicted to our own last Saturday and resulted in 2 yellow cards. Having reviewed these on the video they appear harsh and on another day we may not have had them. In terms of our performance I felt our set piece at scrum and lineout functioned well and we recognise we need to develop our kick reception, as Melrose gained cheap points from our inability to gain possession and manage our field position from there.”
“Looking forward to Gala, we realise this will be another stern test against a well organised and skilled team who have aspirations of winning the league. This game promises to be another great opportunity for us to test ourselves against a club possibly 3/4 seasons ahead of us in their performance cycle. We will be looking to maintain our honest work ethic while adding the finishing touches to what has been some very good lead up work, and if we can iron out some small game components we could well get a great result on Saturday.”
The match kicks off at Old Anniesland at 3 pm on Saturday 14th September.
