Ryan in Scotland 16s Development Squad

Some 52 players have been selected to attend a five-day residential national under-16 player development camp from 14-18 October 2013.

The squad was selected following the recent Scottish Exiles under-16 programme, regional under-15 key national themes’ camps and under-16 local player pathway programmes, which have taken place across the country.

The players were identified and selected after performing strongly during the key national theme camps held in April, playing well for their respective local under-16 pathway squads in August and following previous performances for their clubs and schools.

The coaching team at the camp will include Scottish Rugby’s six regional academy coaches, the Scotland under-16 development squad coaches and Caithness development officer Colin Sangster, with support from Scottish Rugby’s national specialist skills coaches.

Following the camp, players will have the opportunity to earn selection into their respective regional under-16 programmes, leading into the national under-16 selection fixtures. These fixtures will be used as part of the ongoing, season-long selection process for the Scotland under-16 development squad which will be selected in March 2014.

As well as the regional programmes based in Scotland, eligible players who are not based in Scotland will also have the chance to earn selection as part of Scottish Rugby’s exiles programme.
