Buoyed by the strong crowd that turned up to watch Glasgow play the reigning league champions, the boys in Black and Gold continued their trend of starting well by getting an early score. Ben Docherty touched down in the corner after some good hands and quickly recycled ball allowing him the space to barge his way over. Euan Mckean knocked over the tricky touchline conversion to give Glasgow a 7-0 lead. Glasgow continued to dominate field position and possession but couldn't quite turn this into points. After around 20minutes Aberdeen began to get a hold on the game and knocked over a penalty to get them on the scoreboard. With the game at 7-3, the intensity of the match was building and there were countless bruising collisions as players from both sides put their bodies on the line for their team. Shortly before the end of the half Aberdeen managed to find away around the Glasgow defence and score down the touchline. The try was unconverted and the teams went into half time with Aberdeen holding a narrow 8-7 lead. Both sides came out firing but it was Glasgow who scored next with a penalty from Mckean. The score stayed 10-8 until the last 15 minutes when Docherty dived over from the back of one of Glasgow's trademark driving mauls. McKean once again slotted the touchline conversion putting Glasgow into a 17-8 lead. With ten minutes to go Aberdeen threw everything they had at Glasgow and the boys in Black and Gold did superbly to stem the tide but eventually the pressure told and Aberdeen scored a converted try to bring the scores to 17-15. With two minutes left on the clock and the match evenly balanced, Aberdeen broke Glasgow hearts as their kicker held his nerve to kick over what was to be the winning penalty. Although it was a defeat, we should take a lot of positives from the game and learn from this whilst moving on.
