The Craig Hodgkinson Trust wins £3000 Award

The Trust has won a £3000 prize in the 2013 Bank of Scotland Community Award.

Craig’s Trust was established to honour the memory of the former Hawks star, who died playing rugby for the Royal Navy of an undetected cardiac defect, by providing sports clubs and organisations with defibrillator units, to protect young people when enjoying sport.

The support of the rugby community, which led to the winning of the cash Award was acknowledged by Craig’s father, John, coach of GHK.

Hodgie commented:

“Di and myself are delighted by the support from everyone at Old Anniesland, and the wider rugby family, in voting for us. This money enables us to purchase more defibs, taking us closer to the milestone figure of 100 machines donated.

“When we set up the Trust we didn’t anticipate the continuing support we would receive from so many people. The generosity has been outstanding and the role of the British Heart Foundation and Scottish Ambulance Service has been invaluable in making Craig’s Trust so successful”.

To date 92 defibrillators have been donated throughout the UK – from the National Sailing Academy in Weymouth to Orkney Rugby Club.
