Glasgow under 18s news

Glasgow Warriors U18's take on Edinburgh Rugby U18's this Sunday at Lochinch in Glasgow (kick-off 1.30pm).

On Friday 21 December, the Warriors defeated their rivals 12-3 at Murrayfield in the first leg and the tie is now perfectly poised ahead of the return fixture.

To further enhance preparations for the derby double header, the youngsters spent time at Scotstoun in December, with members of the first-team on hand to give them tuition and advice.

Lyall Archer, who is on the bench on Sunday, is enjoying playing a high standard of rugby.

The Highland RFC prop said:

To play for Glasgow Warriors is a great honour and a chance for me to represent the north of Scotland.

"To represent my club at a high level is great as there aren’t many other guys from the highlands who were chosen.”

A number of the players involved in the Edinburgh matches have featured for Scotland including Jamie Ritchie. He has represented Caledonia and Glasgow Warriors at under-16, captaining the latter side, and both teams at under-18 level.

As part of the Scotland under-16 side in 2012, he played in the Wellington Festival and made his international debut for Scotland under-18 against England in Darlington.

He said: “It means a lot to play for Glasgow Warriors in such a big game. I am enjoying being one of the leaders in the team so hopefully I can put in a good shift for the rest of the team and we get the right result.

“I love being a part of Glasgow Warriors and coming to training days at Scotstoun to get a feel for what it would be like to be a professional rugby player.”

Entry for the under-18 second leg at Lochinch is free, so head along on Sunday 5 January to support the future stars of the club.
