Big win for Glasgow 18s

Glasgow under-18 team have beaten @EdinburghRugby U18's 41-10 at Lochinch. Zach Mercer, Ronan Joy & Josh Laird scored second half tries.

Glasgow Warriors under-18's went head-to-head with their Edinburgh Rugby counterparts at Lochinch yesterday afternoon.

The two sides met at Murrayfield last month with the Warriors winning the first leg 12-3 on a wet night in the capital.

In the return fixture the hosts started strongly securing the ball from the kick-off and driving through the midfield with their forwards. After good set piece work the Warriors set up an easy penalty chance, which Duncan Leece converted.

Edinburgh Rugby then immediately came back and pressurised Glasgow at the breakdown with the referee awarding the visitors a penalty. George Taylor's attempt hit the posts and the score remained 3-0 to the Warriors.

Glasgow dominated territory and possession and two short pick and drives by the forwards gave Murray McCallum and Zander Faegerson tries, which were both converted by Duncan Leese.

With half-time looming the Glasgow backs converted a backline attack which was scored in the corner by winger Ronan Joy.

Glasgow started the second-half strongly with their set piece still dominating the possession and the forward power put Zander Faegerson over again after multiple phases in the Edinburgh half to make it 27-0.

Edinburgh eventually did secure some set piece and strong running from Jake Kerr and Ally Miller gave them a platform to secure a five metre line-out and drive over through Calum Hunter Hill. Hugh Fraser added the extras to make it 27-7.

Edinburgh were spurred on and after multiple penalties they broke the Warriors defence to score through Fraser Christie to make it 27-12.

Just as Edinburgh looked to be coming back into the match Glasgow resumed control of the ball and the pack drove through the midfield, with Zach Mercer diving over from five metres out to put the game beyond the visitors. Andrew Goudie stepped up this time to convert and made it 34-12 to the young Warrior side.

As the game drew to a close the Warriors struck from 40 metres out as Llyal Archer slipped a pass to Ronan Joy. He cut an excellent angle and went over under the posts with Goudie adding the extras to round of a promising display from the Glasgow youngsters.
