Cup update

Scotland players Chris Fusaro, Moray Low and Sean Lamont and assistant coach Matt Taylor, took a break from their training schedule to aid pupils of Buckhaven High School, in making the draw for the RBS Cup, Shield and Bowl semi-finals this afternoon.

The semi-final Cup ties are scheduled to be played on Saturday 29 March.

All four regions are represented in this year’s RBS Cup with a team from Borders, Edinburgh, West and Caledonia all competing for a spot in the final.

Both Gala and Aberdeen Grammar Rugby have been drawn with the home semi-finals in the RBS Cup. Gala welcome Glasgow Hawks to Netherdale, while Aberdeen Grammar host Heriot’s at Rubislaw.

In the second-tier competition, either Irvine or Kilmarnock will play the winners of the Edinburgh Regional Shield in the first semi-final. The winner of this match will face whoever is victorious between Caithness and the Border Regional Shield champions, in the RBS Shield final.

The winner of Stirling University and Glenrothes will play the East Regional Bowl champions in one of the semi-finals of the Bowl competition. West Regional Bowl winners, Uddingston, will meet either Stornoway or Highland in the other semi-final.

As a consequence of the construction of Murrayfield’s new hybrid pitch, which, as has already been announced, is being installed this spring in preparation for the 2014/15 season, the 2013/14 RBS National Finals Day will be moved to an alternative venue, which has yet to be confirmed.

Scottish Rugby’s director of rugby operations, Colin Thomson, said: “Further to our communication to all clubs and schools in January, we regret to announce that due to the resurfacing of the international pitch, we will not be able to hold this year’s RBS National Finals Day at Murrayfield.

“The pitch has suffered from a parasitic infestation and the challenges of the wintry weather.

“We are currently looking for a suitable alternative venue for the National Finals Day and will inform all clubs of final arrangements in due course.

“As a result, we seek the full understanding and co-operation of players and supporters, who will be unable to play/spectate at the international pitch this April while we do our utmost to rehabilitate the playing surface.”
